Hi again from Susan. Here I have a layout for you with more of the wonderful chipboard pieces from Memory Maze Designs along with some instructions on how I made it.

HAPPILY

This layout is all about my husband and myself and it celebrates the fact that we have been married for nearly 32 wonderful years!

The frame was primes with gesso then when dry it was coated with red acrylic paint.

Once the paint had dried I smudged the edges with dark grey ink to create a shadow around it. There is a close up in the photo below.

Next I stamped a swirling stamp pattern in clear ink over the painted frame and sprinkled on copper embossing powder then heated it. This allowed the red paint to show through the copper embossing. giving the frame smooth and rough textures.

For the swirls I coated them in gesso then when dry I used brown ink over the top as I didn"t want the white gesso showing through the glitter. I cover the chipboard with white gesso as it makes the colour stand out better.

The dry swirl was coated with dimensional magic/crystal glaze then I sprinkled copper glitter over the top and left it overnight to dry. The excess glitter was gently shaken off then a top coat of dimensional magice was applied and left to dry. This makes for a sparkly high gloss finish.

A few pearl drops were stuck around the swirl to dress it up a bit.

The love banner was simply inked and the word love coloured with Smoch ink then a couple of pearls were added for the final touch. This was then clustered together with a tag and flowers.

Even with all the waiting for embellishments to dry, this was a fun layout to make.

So gather up all your bits and pieces and have a go at findiing fun ways to alter your chipboard pieces.

Quick Idea

I coated this plain chipboard piece with texture paste and let it dry

 

Next I sprayed it with a couple of different colours of mist ink and dabbed on some distress stain in metallic colours. The colours you choose determine the colour of the piece so you can do this to match in with your photos. When it was all dry I inserted some eyelets and adhere some metal pieces and cogs using Dinemsional Magic. 

This border piece from Memory Maze Designs can be used as one whole piece or cut up to make corner or smaller sections.

MY GUY

This layout is all aabout my husband David. I printed out a large photo (A5 size) because at times he is larger than life. He loves his shed and invents, designs and makes many things there. He is an electrician by trade so the ladder and lightbulb fitted this project to a tee!

The viewfinder was coated with Distress Stain in Black soot with black Kindy Glitz spread over the top. A brad was inserted throught the center.

The Sparky Electrician was coloured with Distress Stain in brushed pewter and black soot. The pole was coloured with Radian Rain in nutmeg. The fan was top coated with Kindy Glitz in antique silver to give it some texture. The cogs were coloured with Distress Stain in copper.

The tag ticked was coloured with Distress Stain in tarnished brass with black soot around the edges. A tag was glued onto the top and brads were inserted into the ends.

The light bulb was coloured with Distress Stain in brushed pewter and Smooch in gold lame. The inner tree was coated with Plaid glitter paint in silver. Dimensional Magic was applied over the bulb to give it some shine.

SHED TIME

Here is my husband's second home! It is definately a boy's playground, complete with toys and his "fish fridge of fame" where all the big catch photos go...as well as beer! I wanted this layout to reflect the shiny toys as well as the grungy shed stuff.

The fob watch "shed time", was painted with Smooch in silver, blue and bronze. When dry, Distress Crackle Paint in clear rock candy was painted over the top for an aged look.



These tools were left unpainted but had clear crackle paint on them. I covered cardstock with silver foil tape then embossed it.

These smaller tools were painted with Smooch in silver and bronze.

I find that Memory Maze has such a good range of chipboard for the boys( young and old alike!) and it makes it easier to embellish my layouts to create the feel that I want to convey in them.

Challenged

Something I planned on doing this year is to do the challenges on different sites. "life is what happens when you are busy making plans"....which means I haven't done as many as I would have liked.

This sketch really caught my eye but I wanted to do a male layout that was a bit grungy. I took the cake colours for inspiration off the board and contrasted them with the blue like in the photos. I misted with a pearly yellow spray to reflect the gold of the jewellery.

The chipboard I used on this layout is from Memory Maze Designs.

The arrows (arrow set LO199) were sprayed with Memory Mist in sparkling silver and Tattered Angel Mist in sapphire blue, then stamped over the top.

The small swirls were inked withColorbox ink in topaz and coated with Distress Stickles in dried marigold.

The title( SO515) was sparayed with Memory Mist in sparkling silver then stamped over the top using black ink.

 

 

August Already!!

The days are becoming a little bit longer..yahoo! Having a cold is horrible but it is a good excuse to sit around and potter a bit in my craft room! I like the pottering, not the cold.

Here's a sneak peak of my next Memory Maze project!! Only a few more days to go!

I was going through my stash (part of the pottering thing) and decided to use up some of the bits and pieces I found. I sprayed and inked pretty much everything so all the colours matched. The round gold piece near the title is a foil seal off the top of a wine bottle! Of course we had to drink it first for scrapbooking purposes!

Hi from Susan....as the cool weather sets in, it is a wonderful time to stay indoors and scrapbook! I hope my layouts and the great Memory Maze Design chipboard pieces give you that inspiration.

BEAR BUM!

We live by the beach so our grandchildren are fast becoming water babies! They love swimming and playing in the sand. The "Bear Bum" title was perfect for this layout. I drew the sun on the back of a piece of patterned paper then cut it out. I distressed the edges then inked them to create shadowing.

The banner was covered with paper and the edges were inked to match in.

As soon as I saw the sheet of feet I knew what to do with them..... I coated them with PVA glue (runny white glue) then presses them into sand. Once they had dried I coated them with dimensional magic to seal in the sand and make them look wet.

The words in the title were painted with Radiant Rain in teal zircon with Glitzee Glue in aqua over the top.The bear was painted in nutmeg with Distress Stickles in vintage photo and antique linen smudged together over the top.

CHERISH

Embellishing with chipboard doesn't have to be an expensive time consuming effort ( unless you want it to be!). It still looks good with a couple of coats of paint.The frame was decorated to reflect the colours in the paper and the floral headpiece of the flower girl. (The photos aren't the best because they are original ones of me as a flowergirl in the mid 60"s!)

The wreath was painted with Distresss Crackle paint in weathered wood. When dry I glued on the flower layers. A quick, simple but effective finish for the chipboard

The heart banner as well as the 2 small hearts I cut off the ends were painted with gold paint.

I changed the colour of the rhinestone word with alcohol ink in orange as I wanted the contrast with the blue colours.

LAUGH, FUN

I chose the backing papers to highlight the feathers which I cololured to match in with the paper! The background sheet was plain cardstock that I sponged with bubble wrap dipped in black acrylic paint. I machine stitched around the edges.

The feathers and the cogs were inked in maroon, blue and grey smudges beside each other and blended in using a small sponge. Glitter glue in crystal was applied over the top and when it had dried I coated it with Dimensional Magic.

These cogs were inked the same as the ones above. The other embellishments on the layout were chosen to bring out the colours in the cogs and feather. There was a lot of fun to be had making this layout.

It was fun this month to try a few different techniques with the chipboard to customise them to fit in with the layout themes. I hope you have fun with yours too!

Cards For You

I haven't made cards in awhile and with a couple of rainy days I made the time to have a play! I am also making some kits using Kaisercraft Summer Breeze range...It is an idea out of their magazine...soon to be completed and I'll post the photos of them.

These cards were made from my left over bits stash! I keep the papers filed by their colours in plastic envelope folders so it is easy to find what I want. I also find papers that go together quite easily.

The smaller pieces of card and paper I keep to fussy cut and to make tags and journalling blocks.

Odd flowers and left over cut pieces of bling and swirls go together nicely. Big tags can be cut to size to fit on smaller projects. Some stamping personalises your projects and adds that special touch.
